Acoustic Communication
Installation
Presented in Klanglandschaften Festival 2022 (DE)
These two works rely on technology to point us towards the"unheard" -that which our physiology cannot perceive. Byshifting our listening position, we become aware of the fact thatthere is always more than what meets the ear.
"Bitte Nicht Füttern" uses a geophone mic to convert groundmovement into voltage, playfully imagining an alternativelistening relation between ants and humans.
“Acoustic Communication" reveals the process of soundproduction, transmission, and interference (human voices, radioradio transmission, and electric fence). The work replicates thismodel using an electromagnetic microphone and a radiotransmitter to play back these sounds into our "normal" airborneacoustic space.
Technological production comes at a huge environmental costsand generates an enormous amount of pollution in order tosupport our economic infrastructure. Can technologicalmediated relations create new sensibilities to the (unheard)world around us?
